Labour analyst Michael Bagraim says South Africa cannot afford a strike in the public sector.
The Public Servants’ Association (PSA) has officially served the government a seven-day notice of strike after a deadlock in public wage talks.
Meanwhile, Cosatu has returned to its initial wage demand of 10 %.
Acting minister of Public Service and Administration Thulas Nxesi last week indicated that he would invoke section 5 of the Public Service Act, to unilaterally advance a three-percent wage increase.
Speaking to a public broadcaster Bagraim said the government is in a tight corner.
