Manchester United have suffered their worst defeat of the Premier League era, being hammered 7-0 by arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
The Red Devils came into this match in terrific form, having won the Carabao Cup seven days earlier. Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez scored twice and Roberto Firmino’s late strike secured the stunning win. This is the first time since 1908 that three Liverpool players have scored at least two goals each in a single game against United.
United were walloped 7-0 for the first time since Boxing Day in 1931 at Anfield, where Liverpool inflicted United’s worst defeat in the Premier League era. Liverpool have beaten United 7-0, 4-0 and 5-0 in three of their last four meetings.
Ten Hag says he is disappointed that his players did not show character in the second half.
