Springbok centre Lukhanyo AM says he’s working on getting his confidence back to where it was in the 2022 season that saw him scoop a World Rugby player of the year nomination after performing well for the Sharks and the Springboks. AM spoke at a pre-match press conference ahead of the Boks second Rugby Championship match against the All Blacks in Auckland on Saturday. The World Cup winning midfielder made his return to the Boks team that thrashed the Wallabies 43-12 in Pretoria last weekend, and has been selected again for the All Blacks clash on Saturday as he is set to link up with his World Cup winning midfield partner Damien De Allende.
AM has had a challenging 2023 with the Cell C Sharks, as he strugged with form since coming back from a knee injury he suffered against the Australia in Adelaide last year. As a result he had an underwhelming season with the Cell C Sharks as they struggled to compete in the United Rugby Championship and the Heineken Champions Cup. The Springbok management has backed him with selections in both matches of the Rugby Championship so far, and the soft spoken midfield ace says he will be working on getting his confidence back and regain form ahead of the Boks Rugby World Cup title defence in France.
