ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule says only the ANC branches can direct him to step aside from his position in the party.
Magashule has been addressing his supporters outside the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court in the Free State.
He handed himself over to the Hawks earlier today after a warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this week.
Magashule is one of eight accused in a case involving a R255 million contract to replace asbestos roofing on homes in the Free State.
He’s out on R200 000 bail on condition that he does not to make any contact with his former personal assistant, who has also turned State witness.

Magashule has also accused the media of running a smear campaign against the ruling party.

The case has been postponed to February next year.
