One South Africa Movement leader, Mmusi Maimane, says the Department of Basic Education has a hard task ahead to ensure that schools are safe, sanitary and adequately prepared for the new COVID-19 variant.

This as the reopening of schools has been delayed by two weeks. Pupils will now return to the classroom on the 15th of next month and not next week Wednesday as was originally planned.

Maimane says it is essential to ensure that class periods do not become super spreaders therefore schools cannot return to the way they were.
