Gagasi FM Sports specialist Mike Makaab has opened about the resignation of Vusumuzi Vilakazi as the co-coach of AmaZulu FC. Kanu, as he is affectionately known, ended his stay at Usuthu just four months into his co-coaching stint with Arthur Zwane, citing personal reasons.
Vilakazi and Zwane joined the KZN outfit in October 2024, after the sacking of Spanish coach Pablo Franco Martin. Together, they led the Usuthu to 9 victories from 19 matches in all competitions, which saw the club rise as high as 5th position on the Betway Premiership standings. Zwane will now continue as the sole head coach of the club.
Speaking on Extratime on Gagasi FM Makaab, who is the agent of Vilakazi, says Kanu is stepping away from coaching to deal with his personal matters but he has no doubt that he will return to the dugout soon.
“Very personal (his reason for leaving), he has some issues that he wants to deal with,” said Makaab.
“Him and I had a meeting this morning and we both agreed that he’s going to step away from coaching at the moment and just focus on getting his personal matter sorted out. I am sure that it will be resolved sooner than later and we had a long chat about the way forward for him, you will see him back on the coaching field.”
“He’s a top class young coach and we all go through difficult moments in our lives, whatever those difficult moments may be as long as we learn from the pain, we learn from the suffering we become stronger people, he’ll become a stronger person. With his talent and the experience of going through this difficulty, I think we will see a more resilient and hard working coach go all the way to the top.”
