EFF leader Julius Malena says President Cyril Ramaphosa must ban the sale of alcohol during Easter holidays.
Malema has been briefing media on the outcome of the party’s Central Command Team Meeting held over the weekend.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation at 7 today, on developments in the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Malema says the biggest problem in South Africa is alcohol.
“If you close alcohol From the 1st of April, and then you open it on Tuesday, then half of our problems are done. We won’t have any problems – no accidents, and no spread of CORONA virus because this alcohol is a big problem,” says Malema.
However, Liquor industry stakeholders have warned that an outright ban of alcohol would not be sustainable for the sector.
It is estimated that the last three alcohol bans led to a loss in sale revenue of R36.3 billion for the alcohol industry.
