EFF Leader, Julius Malema, has alleged that friends of Johnson & Johnson are President Cyril Ramaphosa’s CR17 ANC presidential campaign funders.
Malema has been leading a march to South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) offices in Pretoria, as the party is demanding speedy provision of COVID-19 vaccines to South Africans.
He is accusing government of refusing to authorise the usage of Sputnik-V vaccine from Russia and China’s Sinovac (sinovac).
The CIC says this is due to Ramaphosa’s relationship with pharmaceutical company, Aspen, which is the local partner of J&J.
He goes on and alleges that SAHPRA Chairperson, Helen Rees’ husband, Fazel Randera, is a shareholder at Aspen and hence the delay on the approval of Sputnik-V and Sinovac.

Malema says the Sputnik vaccine has worked in 67 countries which proves its efficacy.
He says they are calling on SAHPRA to force president Ramaphosa to accept other vaccines other than the Pfizer and John & Johnson ones.

Meanwhile, SAHPRA CEO Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela says she has received the party’s memorandum and will consider it.
