Man accused of stabbing a 14 month of baby remanded in custody

A man who is suspected of killing a 14-month old baby and attempting to stab the mother has been remanded in custody by the Pinetown Magistrates Court.
It is alleged that the 46-year-old stabbed the little child while he was sleeping.
Police say when the mother went to investigate, she found the suspect stabbing her child.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele, says the suspect has been remanded in custody until 19 February for mental observation.
“The man was arrested over the weekend after he stabbed the child while he was sleeping. According to reports, the mother was outside the house where they both rent rooms when she suddenly heard her baby crying. She went to investigate and found the suspect busy stabbing her child and when she tried to stop him he then turned and started stabbing her. She managed to get away from the suspect and was taken to hospital for further care.
