Mbalula admits there is a risk in opening railways
Written by Lethiwe Mdluli on 12 June, 2020
Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, says he is at all times mindful that risks posed by the re-opening of a service such as commuter rail must not adversely affect communities by spreading new coronavirus infections.
Rail in the country has not been operational since the lockdown started in March.
Mbalula says the government’s approach to managing the spread of Covid-19 is based on striking a balance between the constitutional imperative to safeguard the right to life and preserving the economy.
