Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) board will this morning reveal steps taken to stabilise the entity.

He is expected to address corruption and mismanagement of funds at the state-owned enterprise.

PRASA has been unstable for years. According to the statement released by the Department this forms part of the Minister’s oversight visit to track progress by the Board in meeting its targets to turn PRASA around as mandated through the Shareholder’s compact.

This will be followed by the Minister’s detailed account of the agency’s reconstruction and recovery programme, outlining decisions taken to guard against irregular expenditure.

Briefing the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) about PRASA, Mbalula also made mention of about 3000 ghost workers who have been fraudulently benefiting from the government entity.
