Mbalula: Transport Bill lays the foundation for a competitive sector

Transport minister, Fikile Mbalula, says the Transport Bill lays the foundation for a competitive and economically viable sector that contributes immensely to South Africa’s economic development objectives.
He presented the economic regulation of the Bill to Parliament’s portfolio committee on transport.
Mbalula says the Bill also addresses the regulatory and capacity gaps that relate to the country’s need for an efficient and cost-effective transport system.

Meanwhile the South African National Taxi Council says it will consult with taxi associations on the proposed fare increases.
This comes as various Taxi Associations in Gauteng announced an increase of 172-percent from Monday.
About 76 taxi associations in Johannesburg now say they will hike taxi fares.
Speaking to the SABC, Santaco’s Bafana Magagula, says they are concerned about how the associations arrived at the increase.
