KwaZulu-Natal Cogta MEC, Sipho Hlomuka, says he has no doubt that placing the Nquthu local municipality under administration will help to stabilise the municipality and fast track service delivery.
On Wednesday, Hlomuka met with the Councillors in the parking area after the municipal chamber booked for the meeting was locked.
Last month, the Pietermaritzburg High Court ruled that the appointments of Nquthu’s acting Municipal Manager, acting Chief Financial Officer and acting Director of Planning, Housing and Land Administration were invalid.
Hlomuka says the municipality has failed to ensure political and administrative stability for a long time, which is now adversely affecting its operations.
However, IFP’s caucus Chief Whip in the KZN Legislature, Blessed Gwala, slammed the ANC-led provincial government for placing the municipality under administration saying it’s politically driven.
