Mkhize Says Government on Course with Vaccine Procurement

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says the only protection in  dealing with the Coronavirus is through vaccination.

Mkhize has been briefing Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Health on the status of healthcare services in provinces in relation to the pandemic. He also briefed the committee on the rollout strategy of the COVID-19 Vaccine.

He says in terms of the department’s calculation, they need 67-70% of the population to be immunised to break the cycle of transmission – what is called the herd immunity.

Mkhize adds that the department has approached a number of vaccine manufacturers and discussions are at a sensitive stage and he believes talks will be concluded soon.
