An independent panel has told Parliament that it has found prima facie evidence, that Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhebane is guilty of misconduct and is incompetent.
In its recommendations, the three-member panel which consisted of Justice Beth Nkabinde and two advocates, says Parliament should institute proceedings to remove Mkhwebane from office.
If this goes through, Mkhwebane could be the first head of a Chapter 9 institution in the country to face impeachment proceedings.
The panel was mandated to conduct a preliminary assessment and make a recommendation on whether there is a case she should answepr to.
