The World Health Organisation (WHO) says almost 14-thousand confirmed monkeypox cases have now been reported this year, from more than 70 countries and territories.
So far, five deaths have been reported, all in Africa.
Today the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee will reconvene to consider whether the monkeypox outbreak constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.
WHO’s director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, says they will continue to do everything to support countries to stop transmission and save lives.
