More than a million people in SA have been tested for Covid-19

Health minister, Zweli Mkhize, says completing over one-million Covid-19 tests in the country is no small feat.

He announced that more than one million tests have been done, of which about 30 000 were conducted since Wednesday.

58 658 coronavirus cases have now been recorded in the country.

To date, one-thousand-210 people are known to have died from the virus, while more than 33 000 have recovered.

Meanwhile 31 schools across the Eastern Cape, mostly in Buffalo City, have been closed after 20 people tested positive for Covid-19.

Fifteen teachers, three learners and two non-teaching staff tested positive.

Provincial Education Department spokesperson, Loyiso Pulumani, says some schools have been closed for cleansing and tracing.

Nkwezana Public School in Sunrise-On-Sea outside East London has the highest number of people under investigation for the coronavirus at 25.
