Motorists Warned Of Vast Increase In Tyre Prices

The Tyre Importers Association of South Africa (TIASA) is calling on government to reject the South African Tyre Manufacturers Conference’s duty application on tyres imported from China.
The association warns the cost of tyres could increase by up to 41-percent if the application is successful.
Additional duties of between 8- and 69-percent will then be imposed on passenger, taxi, bus and truck vehicle tyres.
TIASA chairperson Charl de Villiers says SATMC’s application for duties is absurd as nearly three-thousand-200 tyre products are sold in the country.
