Motshekga Announces Matric NSC Results

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the 2020 national certificate pass rate is at 76.2%, a major drop if compared with the class of 2019 which was at 83%.

Motshekga has been delivering the Matric class of 2020 results on Monday afternoon.

She says despite the disruption by COVID-19, 36.5% of learners achieved a Bachelors pass while 26% achieved a Diploma, with the Free state being the top performing province  and KZN being at number 4

Motskhega  adds that the year 2020 will be remembered as the year that presented many challenges, where government had to balance education and protecting lives.

In KZN the Ugu district has the highest pass rate.

The overall 2020 Matric Pass Rate is 76.2%. Provincial performance is as follows:

Free state 85.1%
Gauteng 83.3%
Western Cape 79.9%
KwaZulu Natal 77.6%
North West 76.2
Mpumalanga 73.7%
Limpopo 68.2
Eastern Cape 68.1%
Northern Cape 66%
