The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has voted that President Cyril Ramaphosa does not need to come forward to testify before the committee.

This after ANC MP Mervyn Dirks told the Committee on Public Accounts that Ramaphosa was heard in an audio recording admitting that he knew about funds being misused.

Dirks further accused the ANC of not denying the allegations, but instead, attempting to conceal the release of the audio from the public:

Dirks who is now suspended, wrote to Scopa chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa last month, asking that president Cyril Ramaphosa be summoned to appear and reveal what he knows about the misuse of public funds for party political activities.

However, Hlengwa says majority of MPs voted that against Ramaphosa to appear before the parliamentary watchdog.

Ramaphosa has said it before that if asked to appear before Scopa, he would do so without being summoned.
