South Africans on Twitter are salivating over award-winning actress, Nomzamo Mbatha after her appearance on Shaka iLembe last Sunday.
Shaka iLembe premiered last Sunday at 8 pm on Mzansi Magic. It is a historical drama series that explores the story of the making of the iconic African king, Shaka Zulu, from his childhood through to adulthood, during the 1700s.
It features a star-studded cast of actors such as Nomzamo Mbatha, Lemogang Tsipa, Thembinkosi Mthembu, Abdul Khoza, Mondli Makhoba, Dawn Thandeka King and more.

The love for episode one of #ShakaiLembeMzansi has been overwhelmingly beautiful. I know I may give the elusion of confidence without the fragments of self doubt, but this has been a brave and hard journey. We won’t celebrate just yet… 1 down… 11 to go. 8PM, Sunday…— Nomzamo Mbatha (@NomzamoMbatha) June 21, 2023
The series is created by Angus Gibson, Mpumelelo Paul Grootboom and Desireé Markgraaff and produced by Bomb Film, Multichoice Studios and The Bomb Shelter Film Company.
The show reportedly took six years to research, consult and plan, according to one crew member. Shaka iLembe has 900 crew members, 250 actors, thousands of extras, 2 000+ costumes, 420 hairstyles, 8 000 strings of beads, and it took nine months to build the Johannesburg set.
Set designers also used over 50km of reed grass and hand-plaited the old-fashioned way into rope. When Shaka iLembe premiered last night, viewers were amused by how the show depicted the traditional Zulu culture.
The women on the show are bare-chested, a rarity on South African television. On South African shows like The Wife and Adulting, women’s bare chests only show during s*x scenes.
However, this time, the women had no tops even as they went about their business.
Internationally acclaimed actress Nomzamo Mbatha thrilled fans online with her appearance, and she has been trending, with men drooling intensely over her.
