NATU President Allen Thompson Dies

The National Teacher’s Union has confirmed the death of its President, Allen Thompson.
Details around Thompson’s death are still sketchy at this moment.
Thompson was elected President of the second biggest teacher’s union in South Africa, NATU, in 2018 where he succeeded then president, Siphosethu Ngcobo.
NATU’s General Secretary Cynthia Barnes says the union currently does not have details surrounding his passing as they are still in communication with the family.
Barnes adds that they are deeply saddened by Thompson’s sudden passing and he will be remembered for the huge role he played in the education profession.

South African Democratic Teacher’s Union’s , SADTU, General Secretary Mugwana Maluleke says Thompson’s death comes as a shock.
Maluleke says Thompson was a man of integrity and a person who stood firmly in everything he believed in.

The South African Council for Educators has described Thompson as a vibrant and courageous leader.
“He was always open to engaging with Council and providing guidance and encouragements in the pursuit of ensuring that the professionalization of the teaching profession is realised and achieved,” explains the council’s spokesperson, Themba Ndhlovu.
