Nehawu to go ahead with strike

Written by on 1 September, 2020

Health workers union Nehawu says it is going ahead with its full blown strike on Thursday because it seems as if government is still not interested in addressing the demands that workers have.

Nehawu members at National Health Laboratory Service offices have been holding lunchtime pickets throughout last week, with a national full blown strike planned for this week.

They are protesting against staff shortages, insufficient PPE and the 0% salary increase.

The union’s, Zola Saphetha, says Health and safety challenges have always been there, however, they have been exacerbated by the outbreak of the virus.

He says Workers continue to be paid peanuts and also not getting bonuses while being overworked because of under-staffing.
