Public Enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan has confirmed that there will be no load-shedding on election day.
The minister was forced to call an emergency briefing yesterday to explain to the nation about the ongoing blackouts, after fears of load shedding disrupting the local government election mounted.
The briefing followed Eskom’s decision to move the country to level 4 rotational blackouts earlier in the day.
The electricity giant says load shedding is implemented as a last resort in their efforts to maintain stability of power generation.
Minister Gordhan says the priority now is to assist Eskom to perform better and avoid blackouts, which might have a negative effect on elections as well.
