NPA Set to Go on Zuma Trial

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it remains ready to proceed with the corruption and fraud trial of former president Jacob Zuma from May 17.

This is despite the former President’s legal team’s formal notice of withdrawal of their services in his trial.

NPA spokesperson Sipho Ngwema has confirmed receipt of the letter from Mabuza Attorneys.

The withdrawal follows a judgement of the Supreme Court of Appeal recently, that Zuma has to foot the bill for his criminal trial.

Some political experts say the tightening of the money tap could be one of the reasons for Zuma’s attorneys dropping him.

The NPA’s Sipho Ngwema says the state remains ready for trial.
