A total of 511 South African health workers have already tested positive for Covid-19, and 26 are currently in hospital.
A doctor and a nurse are among those who have lost their lives.
Health minister, Zweli Mkhize, announced these figures during a visit to the Job Shimankana Tabane Hospital in Rustenburg, North West.
The chairperson of the South African Medical Association, Angelique Coetzee, says health workers naturally are in direct contact with coronavirus patients.
