EThekwini municipality speaker, Thabani Nyawose, says he will meet first with all the party’s whips in the municipality before making a decision whether to grant or deny the notice of motion to remove mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda from the executive committee of the council.
Active Citizens Coalition’s councilors, Muhammed Ismail and Imitiaz Syed, stated in their letter to Nyawose that in line with provision 53 (1) of the local government: Municipal Structures Act, they intend to table a motion to remove Kaunda as a member of the executive committee of the council as well as being the mayor.
EThekwini municipality under the leadership of Kaunda lost approximately 60% in revenue from water purchased from uMngeni Water.
This accounts for about R2 billion in the current financial year.
Nyawose elaborates.
