Opposition Parties Weigh In on President’s Address

Opposition parties have commended President Cyril Ramaphosa, the cabinet and the National Coronavirus Command Council’s decision to keep the country at level 3 of the national lockdown.

DA leader John Steenhuisen says they also welcome the president’s announcement that government has secured 20 million Covid-19 vaccine doses, even though the details are vague.

Addressing the nation last night, Ramaphosa has confirmed that South Africa has put in place a comprehensive vaccination strategy to reach all parts of the country.

Steenhuisen says no matter how the president spins it, his government has massively and unforgivably dropped the ball on the acquisition of vaccines

Meanwhile the IFP’s Mkhuleko Hlengwa says the country remaining within the adjusted level three of lockdown is a sensible and pragmatic step, which will keep the economy open.

He adds that they are however displeased with the non-announcement of critical events that are nearing, such as the reopening of schools.
