The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) is calling for the removal of Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe, saying he has continually failed to do his job.

Outa’s Brendan Slade says the country needs a minister who is able and willing to implement a formidable energy plan and an update on the 2019 Integrated Resource Plan.

On Monday president Cyril Ramaphosa announced a plan centred on leveraging Eskom’s installed generation capacity, and opening up the electricity sector to independent power producers.

However Outa’s Slade says Mantashe should have implemented many aspects of the energy measures announced by Ramaphosa years ago.
