Over 200 Jobs Created Through N3 Road Upgrade

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Patricia de Lille, is today monitoring progress on the N3 interchange road upgrade infrastructure project in KwaZulu-Natal.
The project will see the expansion and upgrades to the N3 between the Dardanelles interchange and the Lynnfield Park interchange situated between Cato Ridge and Pietermaritzburg..
The upgrade will help motorists travel easier between Durban and Johannesburg once the multi-billion rand upgrade is complete.
De Lille confirmed that the value of the upgrades has so far amounted to more than R3.2 billion and will be completed by 2025.
“It aims to strengthen the logistics and transport corridor between South Africa’s main industrial hubs, improve access to Durban’s export and import facilities and raise efficiency along the corridor,” she explained.
The project falls within the uMgungundlovu District Municipality, Mkhambathini Local Municipality and eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality in this province.
Commenting on job creation linked to this project, the minister says currently, 248 people are employed on site of which 148 are from the Mkhambathini and Msunduzi local municipality areas and the number of employees is expected to increase to 450 in 2022.
