KZN Community Safety acting MEC Jomo Sibiya says the uncontrolled sale and consumption of alcohol is contributing to the high rate of crime in the country.
Sibiya has been briefing media during his visit to the Sweetwater’s crime scene, where four people were killed and 8 people fighting for their lives in hospital yesterday.
They were all gunned down in Samkelisiwe Restaurant, also known to the community as eMjondolo.
Addressing the media in the company of Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, Sibiya says the Liquor Board should also tighten the laws around trading hours.
Sibiya has also raised concern that the area Sweetwaters has more than 163 taverns, meaning alcohol is available to anyone at any time.
