Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife is urging non-governmental organisations to propose non-lethal solutions for managing a herd of approximately 30 elephants that escaped from a game reserve in KwaMpumpula and are currently near Nongoma, in the north of KwaZulu-Natal.
Residents have evacuated their homes due to safety concerns as the elephants continue to roam the area.
The appeal follows the recent culling of nine elephants near Vryheid, which sparked a public outcry.
Ezemvelo Wildlife spokesperson Musa Mntambo stated that they are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to finding humane ways to protect both the community and the elephants.
