Al Ahly secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over wydad casablanca in the first-leg of the CAF champions League final.
Goals from former Mamelodi Sundowns and Brighton striker Percy Tau and Mahmoud Kahraba earned the Egyptian giants the win at Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.. After 38 minutes, there were more calls for a penalty as Al-Ahly claimed that the impressive El Shahat was brought down in the area by Jalal Daoudi but the appeals were waved away.
The visitors carved out three chances in the space of a minute Reda Jaadi tested Mostafa Shobeir with a strike from inside the box in the 40th minute before Ayoub El Amloud dragged a shot wide of the left post from range moments later and Junior Sambou steered a header wide of the right post from a 41st-minute corner.
This year, the old format of a two-leg final made a comeback, with Al Ahly hosting the first-leg in Cairo a week before the decisive game in Morocco. The stage is now set for the second leg, scheduled to take place on June 11 at the iconic Mohamed V Stadium.
