Health Minister Joe Phaahla says with 20 months into the country’s COVID-19 Lockdown, South Africa has gained sufficient experience in dealing with the new Omicron variant.

Phaahla has addressed media on government’s state of readiness and response to the new variant.

The rising number of active cases has led to the country being placed on a travel ban list by the United Kingdom and a number of other countries.

The Omicron variant has also been detected in a number of other countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Hong Kong, and Israel.

Phaahla says health facilities are ready should the country experience increases in Covid cases.
