Police Commissioner Confirms Suicide of Hit-and-Run Driver.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has confirmed that a member of the presidential protection unit, whose vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run on Friday, has committed suicide at a hotel in Umhlanga, north of Durban.

The accident resulted in the death of 26-year-old Phumla Mtshali on Phoenix Highway. The driver sped off without assisting the critically injured pedestrian.

It has been reported that a registration plate belonging to the vehicle was recovered at the scene but was later removed by an unknown person minutes later.
