Political parties have applauded former president Jacob Zuma for voluntary handing himself over to Estcourt Correctional Service officials.

The Constitutional Court sentenced Zuma to 15 months in prison for contempt of court after failing to appear before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry.

Police and the Correctional Services Ministries have confirmed that the former president is behind bars, in compliance with the Con-Court judgement.

Police Minister Bheki Cele was given until Wednesday midnight to enforce a Con-Court order to arrest Zuma, after he failed to had himself over during the 5 days he was given by the court to do so.

ANC provincial spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela says Zuma did what was expected of him as a leader in the party and the society.
