Presidency Outlines Importance of Women’s Economic Empowerment

Millions of women are expected to benefit from the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign, as this year’s theme focuses on the importance of women’s economic empowerment.

Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, says through this theme, their focus as government is fast tracking the empowerment of women-owned businesses to better take up opportunities within the implementation of the 40% preferential public procurement.

On the scourge of gender based violence, she says they are continuing their fight in the country within the framework of the Gender-based Violence and Femicide National Strategic Plan.

Nkoane Mashabane says this fight can only be won through unity.
