Proteas U19 Women Reach Historic T20 World Cup Final with Win Over Australia

South Africa’s U19 Women’s team has made history by securing a spot in their first-ever ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup final following a dominant five-wicket win over Australia in the semi-final on Friday in Kuala Lumpur.

The Proteas delivered a stellar bowling performance, led by Ashleigh van Wyk’s impressive 4/17, restricting Australia to a modest 105/8. Their fielding was equally sharp, holding onto crucial catches to stifle Australia’s batting momentum. Despite a late surge from Ella Briscoe (27*), Australia’s total appeared insufficient against South Africa’s in-form batting lineup.

In response, Jemma Botha (34) and Kayla Reyneke (26) anchored the chase with composed knocks, ensuring South Africa maintained control throughout. Though a few late wickets fell, Mieke van Voorst (8*) and Seshnie Naidu (2) guided the Proteas across the finish line with 11 balls to spare.

With this victory, South Africa remains unbeaten in the tournament and will now face either India or England in Sunday’s final, aiming to claim their maiden U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title.
