Public Office Bearers Not Getting a Salary Increase, Again…

President Cyril Ramaphosa says Members of Parliaments (MPs) are barely getting by following no salary increase for the second year, consecutively.
This comes in the backdrop of backlash on the benefits as well as the salaries of MPs while the rest of South Africans are struggling to make ends meet.
According to the 2020 government gazette on salaries of public office bearers, the salaries of National Assembly Speaker and the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) were estimated at close to R3 million per annum.
MPs are sitting at just over R1 million which comes with allowances, benefits, as well as other resources.
However, Ramaphosa says this is just not enough
