Eskom’s CEO, André de Ruyter, announced the utility made a net loss after tax of R18.9-billion for the financial year ending on 31 March this year.

Sales volumes were down by 6.7-percent. Eskom reduced staff by 4.5% during the period. The gross debt burden reduced by R81.9-billion.

Taxpayers contributed 56-billion-rand to debt payment.

De Ruyter says the debt burden is Eskom’s biggest challenge.
