R34 Freak Accident Death Toll Rises

The death toll in a horrific collision between a bakkie and a small car on the R34 between Vryheid and Ulundi in northern KZN has risen to ten.

This as one of the six critically injured patients has died in hospital.

Initial investigations by the provincial department of transport have revealed that the driver of the small car failed to stop at a stop street before colliding head-on with a bakkie.

It has emerged that the small car, a Mazda 3 was overloaded carrying seven occupants, who died at the scene of the accident.

Transport spokesperson Gugu Sisilana says the exact cause of the accident is still being investigated however, reckless and negligent driving cannot be rulled out.
