President Cyril Ramaphosa has reassured South Africans that they will never again witness forced removals, as there are now laws in place to prevent the unlawful seizure of land or property.
During his response to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) debate, he described the 1913 Native Land Act as the “original sin” that caused immense and lasting harm, ultimately plunging millions of South Africans into poverty.
Various political parties raised a range of concerns regarding land reform and the expropriation of land without compensation during the debate.
Ramaphosa emphasised that South Africans are all too familiar with the pain of being forcibly removed from their land, and for this reason, he assured the nation that such injustices will never be repeated.
