President Cyril Ramaphosa says Traditional leaders must be deeply involved in the implementation of the District Development Model.

Ramaphosa is replying to issues raised during a debate in the National House of Traditional Leaders.

The District Development Model builds on the White Paper on Local Government, which seeks to ensure that local government is transformed to play a developmental role.

During the debate, traditional leaders expressed their disappointment that many of them are not allowed to participate in local government programs.

Ramaphosa says traditional leaders must not be bystanders to this process.
