President Cyril Ramaphosa says it is disturbing that recent reports from the Auditor-General, National Treasury, and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, shows that the majority of municipalities are failing.

He delivered the keynote address at a local governance conference hosted by the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in Johannesburg yesterday.

Ramaphosa says Treasury classifies two-thirds of South Africa’s 257 municipalities as being in financial distress, with only 41 receiving clean audits in the past financial year.
