President Cyril Ramaphosa says nothing justifies the violence and looting currently being witnessed in the country.

He had been addressing the nation on Monday evening on the government’s response to the persistent public violence in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

His address followed an increase in incidents of looting, damage to both private and public property with a number of people now reported to have been killed in both provinces.

Ramaphosa says government will not sit by and allow the safety of people to be compromised through threat of violence, intimidation, theft, and looting, adding that they will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those who perpetrate these actions and will ensure that they face the full might of the law.
