President Cyril Ramaphosa says the country cannot afford to have municipalities that fail the local government.

Ramaphosa has been delivering his keynote address on the first day of the South African Local Government Association’s two-day hybrid National Members Assembly.

The Assembly is SALGA’s constitutional body and is held twice in between the SALGA National Conferences.

He says all government programmes must address community needs and contribute to developmental objectives such as poverty reduction and job creation.

Ramaphosa says the implementation in local government’s purpose is to narrow the distance between the people and the government including facilitating inclusive economic development.
