Responsibility of UIF claims lies with the employer

The commissioner of the Unemployment Insurance Fund, Teboho Maruping, says the responsibility of UIF benefit claims lies with the employer or business and not with the employee.
He says for this reason a Covid-19 Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme, has been developed to mitigate the impact of the lockdown and avoid any confusion on who can apply for UIF payments.
Maruping says this scheme is delinked from other UIF Benefits and processes but applications are subjected to the fund’s normal verification and validation processes.
