KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza has called upon women in rural communities to set up projects that will empower them to economical independence.

This as the MEC and eThekwini municipality are commemorating International Day of Rural Women at Umzinyathi, north of Durban.

They have been handing over equipment for agricultural purposes to a group of women, Sukumani Nenze, as a contribution to advance government agenda in line with the National Development Plan.

This day recognises the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.

Khoza says the department is already this co-operative’s first client and they are looking at penetrating into other markets.
