Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, has confirmed that South Africa will resume the rollout of the COVID-19 Johnson and Johnson (J&J) vaccine through the Sisonke programme, on Wednesday.

The country halted the use of the vaccine after six people in the United States developed unusual blood clots with low platelets after receiving the jab.

Mkhize says this decision to resume follows a recommendation by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority.

Meanwhile, Mkhize says when the Sisonke programme resumes, vaccination will be expanded to 95 sites across the country and the sites will continue to vaccinate healthcare workers during phase one.
