SA Will Need to Ride out the Third Wave – SAMA

The South African Medical Association (SAMA) says the country’s latest stricter lockdown measures are too little and came too late.

The number of new covid-19 cases recorded in one day in the country reached a record high this past weekend with more than 26 000 new cases reported on Saturday.

According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), the Delta variant of the virus is sweeping across the country and Gauteng remains the epicenter.

SAMA Chairperson, Angelique Coetzee says the country’s vaccine drive has not gained enough momentum to fight off the resurgence, therefore, South Africans will need to ride out the third wave of the Coronavirus.
